blazei

Blazei refers to the edible mushroom Agaricus blazei Murrill, a basidiomycete in the family Agaricaceae. In some taxonomic treatments it is treated as Agaricus brasiliensis, a synonym of A. blazei.

Description and habitat: The mushroom typically has a convex to plano cap that is light brown to tan, with white to light-colored flesh. The gills are initially pale and darken as the mushroom matures. Blazei is saprotrophic, growing on rich substrates such as compost, supplemented substrates, or decaying wood in warm, humid environments. Uses and composition: Blazei is eaten as a nutritious mushroom and valued for its mild, nutty flavor. It contains carbohydrates, fiber including beta-glucans, proteins, and minerals.
