A bladrosette, also known as a basal rosette, is a circular arrangement of leaves growing from the base of a plant stem. These leaves are typically short-stalked or stalkless and spread out close to the ground. This growth habit is common in many herbaceous perennial plants and biennials.

The primary function of a bladrosette is to help the plant survive unfavorable conditions. By keeping its leaves close to the soil surface, the plant can be insulated from harsh weather, such as frost or strong winds, and retain moisture. This arrangement also allows the plant to capture sunlight effectively, especially in the early stages of growth or in areas with sparse canopy cover.

Many plants that form bladerossettes are monocarpic, meaning they flower and produce seeds only once in their lifetime before dying. Biennials, for example, often spend their first year developing a prominent bladepositary, which stores food reserves for the second year when they bolt, flower, and reproduce. Examples of plants that commonly exhibit this growth form include dandelions, plantains, and many species of mullein. The bladepositary can also serve as a defense mechanism, making it difficult for herbivores to consume the plant's crown.
