Betapositie is a term used in Dutch financial discourse to describe the exposure of a position or portfolio to systematic market risk, as quantified by beta. Beta is a measure of how much the return of an asset tends to move relative to the market portfolio. A betapositie of 1 means the position tends to move in line with the market; a betapositie greater than 1 indicates higher sensitivity, while a betapositie below 1 indicates lower sensitivity, and a negative beta implies movement opposite to the market.

In practice, the betapositie of a portfolio is the weighted average of the betas of its constituent assets (the portfolio weights). Investors monitor betapositie to understand market risk and to adjust hedges. To reduce betapositie, managers may tilt toward low-beta assets or employ hedging with derivatives; to increase it, tilt toward high-beta stocks or use leverage.

Limitations: Beta is typically estimated from historical data and may change over time; it assumes a linear relationship between asset and market returns and constant beta, which may not hold in different market regimes. Betapositie does not capture idiosyncratic risk, liquidity, or event-driven risks, and it should be used alongside other measures of risk and return.
