Benefics are a category of planets or luminaries in astrology that are generally believed to bring favorable outcomes. They are associated with ease, growth, and harmony in life events such as relationships, finances, health, and personal development. The concept is used in evaluating a birth chart to identify areas of ease or advantage.

In classical Western astrology, Venus and Jupiter are the primary benefics. Venus is linked to love, aesthetics, and material comfort; Jupiter to expansion, luck, and opportunity. The Moon is also often treated as a benefic due to its nourishing and protective associations, though it is a luminary rather than a planet. Some traditions also consider Mercury as having benefic potential in certain contexts.

Benefics influence outcomes through their placement by sign and house, the aspects they make with angles and other planets, and their essential dignities (whether they are in rulership, exaltation, domicile, or detriment). When benefics are well-placed and well-aspected, they are thought to encourage favorable results; when afflicted by malefics or placed in challenging houses or signs, their positive effects may be dampened.

In modern astrology, some practitioners expand the term to include outer planets or to discuss "benefic" influences in a more flexible way, sometimes relativizing by the chart's overall condition. The term "benefic" is often contrasted with "malefic," which denotes planets or factors associated with hardship and challenge, notably Saturn and Mars in traditional usage.
