Basocelulares refers to basal cell carcinomas, a common type of skin cancer. These cancers arise from the basal cells, which are found in the lower layer of the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. Basal cell carcinomas typically develop on sun-exposed areas of the body, such as the face, neck, and ears. They are often slow-growing and rarely spread to other parts of the body.

The appearance of basal cell carcinomas can vary. They may present as a pearly or waxy bump, a flat flesh-colored or brown scar-like lesion, or a sore that bleeds and scabs over repeatedly. While generally not life-threatening, if left untreated, they can grow larger and invade surrounding tissues.

The primary cause of basal cell carcinoma is long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. Factors such as fair skin, a history of sunburns, a weakened immune system, and exposure to certain chemicals can also increase the risk.

Diagnosis is usually made through a physical examination of the skin lesion. A biopsy, where a small sample of the tissue is removed and examined under a microscope, confirms the diagnosis. Treatment options depend on the size, location, and type of basal cell carcinoma. Common treatments include surgical removal (excision), Mohs surgery (a precise surgical technique), curettage and electrodesiccation, radiation therapy, and topical medications. Early detection and treatment are crucial for a successful outcome.
