Bandsplit is a term used in audio engineering and music production to describe a phenomenon where a stereo audio signal is incorrectly processed or reproduced, resulting in a loss of the intended spatial separation between the left and right channels. Instead of a cohesive stereo image, the listener perceives sounds as being isolated either solely to the left or right speaker, or as a muddled mix where the distinct stereo characteristics are diminished.

This splitting can occur for a variety of reasons, often stemming from technical issues in recording, mixing, or playback equipment.
