Bagfiltre, or bag filter, is a filtration device used to remove suspended solids from liquids and, in some configurations, gases. It consists of a fabric filtration bag housed inside a pressure-rated housing. As the fluid passes through the bag, particulates are trapped on or within the bag fibers, producing clarified effluent.

Construction and materials vary, but common bag media include polyester, polypropylene, nylon, and PTFE membranes. Bags are available in different pore sizes and are supported by a cage or support basket inside the housing. Housings are designed for easy bag installation and secure seals at the inlet and outlet.

Operation and performance depend on flow rate, particle load, and bag media. Fluid enters the housing, passes through the bag, and solids accumulate on the bag surface or within the fibers. Over time, differential pressure increases as capacity is reached. Most systems accommodate bag replacement; some backwashable or washable designs enable cleaning in place and continued use. Differential-pressure indicators or gauges are often used to determine replacement or cleaning intervals.

Applications and advantages vary by industry. Bagfiltre are widely used in chemical processing, petrochemicals, food and beverage, pharmaceutical manufacturing, water treatment, and paints or inks production. They offer high filtration area, simple operation, and relatively low capital cost, making them suitable as pre-filters before finer membranes or as polishing filters after coarse separation. Typical bag ratings range from roughly 1 to 100 micrometers, depending on media and design. Maintenance involves timely bag replacement or cleaning, guided by process requirements and differential pressure.
