It is not a formal job title but appears in casual discussion among software developers, product teams, and project managers.

In practice, a backlogista may perform activities commonly associated with backlog refinement: maintaining items, writing or editing user stories, estimating effort, setting priorities, and preparing work for planning meetings. The role overlaps with, but is not identical to, established roles such as product owner or business analyst; in many teams the backlogista functions as an informal champion for backlog health while formal responsibilities remain with other role-holders.
