Audioloog is the Dutch term for an audiologist, a health professional who specializes in the assessment, management, and rehabilitation of hearing, balance, and speech disorders. Audiologists diagnose hearing loss using a range of audiometric tests, such as pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, and tympanometry, and interpret the results to determine the type and severity of impairment. They also assess vestibular function to detect dizziness and balance problems.

Education and qualification for an audioloog typically involve a university degree in audiology or a related field, often a Master of Science, followed by a period of supervised clinical practice. In the Netherlands, audiology graduates must register with the Dutch register of audiologists (Audiologenregister) to legally practice. Continuing professional development is required to stay current with advances in hearing technology and clinical guidelines.

Audiologen work in various settings including hospitals, primary care clinics, private practices, schools, and research centres. Their responsibilities extend beyond diagnosis to include fitting and programming hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices; providing rehabilitation programs such as hearing aid training, auditory training, and communication strategies; and counselling patients and families about hearing loss prevention and management. In many cases, audiologen collaborate closely with ENT specialists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists to deliver comprehensive care.

The profession has evolved with advances in audiological equipment, digital signal processing, and a growing understanding of the psychosocial impacts of hearing impairment. Audiologen therefore play a critical role in improving quality of life for individuals with hearing and balance disorders.
