Audio follows video (AFV) is a control concept used in multi‑camera video production and live streaming. It ensures that the audio feed associated with the currently selected video source is automatically routed to the main program mix, so switching video inputs also switches the audio source. The result is synchronized audio and video with reduced manual switching.

In practice AFV is implemented in both hardware video switchers and software production systems. It is common in television studios, live sports productions, and online broadcasts that rely on rapid camera changes. Hardware switchers from major vendors and software suites such as OBS Studio, vMix, and Wirecast can support AFV or similar behavior by linking a video input to an audio input, so the current video source automatically carries its corresponding audio.

Benefits of AFV include simplified operator control, reduced risk of mismatched audio, and improved lip‑sync when sources share the same microphone setup. Limitations include the potential for abrupt audio transitions if switching to a source with a different audio level or noise profile, and possible latency or synchronization issues if audio and video routing paths introduce different delays. Some setups employ crossfades or delay compensation to smooth transitions.

AFV is usually configured to match each video source with its intended audio path, and it is most effective in tightly coordinated live environments. In post‑production editing, audio and video are typically managed separately, so AFV is primarily a live production concept.
