Atsoluutti or atsoluusi refers to a concept within Finnish medicinal plant folklore, specifically the practice of using impure or spoiled plant material in the creation of medicines.

In traditional Finnish medicine, it was believed that certain plants, when left to spoil or become impure, would develop unique properties that could be used for medicinal purposes. Atsoluuti makers would intentionally let plant material rot, often in the presence of specific insects, animals, or under particular environmental conditions, to effect this transformation.

The practice of creating atsoluutti involved various plant species, including fungi, lichens, and other organisms. Atsoluutti was essentially a form of maceration, where the plant material was steeped in a solvent to release the medicinal compounds. Historically, atsoluutti was typically combined with animal fat or other binders to create a medicinal ointment.

Atsoluutti's medicinal uses ranged from treating various skin conditions to aiding in digestion. Practitioners believed atsoluutti possessed antimicrobial and antifungal properties. This form of traditional medicine has largely fallen out of favor, replaced by more modern pharmaceutical products and practices.

While some atsoluutti recipes appear in contemporary pharmacy and folk medicine literature, modern medicine largely rejects the traditional approaches to creating atsoluutti. The efficacy and safety of traditional atsoluutti preparations have not been extensively scientifically studied, making their continued use not widely recommended.
