Atheological refers to a stance or perspective that is not concerned with or does not involve theology. Theology itself is the study of the nature of God and religious belief. Therefore, something described as atheological is outside the domain of theological inquiry or discourse. This term can be applied in various contexts, but it most commonly signifies a rejection of or indifference to religious dogma and divine concepts.

For example, an atheological approach to a philosophical problem would mean analyzing it without reference to any religious or supernatural explanations. Similarly, an atheological worldview is one that does not rely on theological principles to understand the world or one's place in it. It is important to note that "atheological" is distinct from "atheistic," although there can be overlap. Atheism is specifically the disbelief or lack of belief in God or gods. While atheism is inherently atheological in that it rejects theological claims about deities, something can be atheological without necessarily being explicitly atheistic. For instance, a purely scientific inquiry might be considered atheological because its methodology does not incorporate theological considerations, regardless of the scientist's personal beliefs about God. The term emphasizes the absence of theological content or relevance.
