Arrendegivaren is a fictional semi-aquatic mammal described in fantasy literature and role-playing game materials. In the most common depictions, it inhabits river basins and wetlands across the central continent of Lirion, where reed beds, floodplains, and small tributaries provide shelter and food. The name is derived from the Arren language group, combining roots that translate roughly as water and guardian or keeper.

Physical characteristics include a medium-sized body about 60 to 90 cm long, with a thick, water-repellent coat that varies from dark brown to gray; a broad tail; and partially webbed hind feet that aid swimming. The forelimbs are nimble, enabling manipulation of aquatic vegetation and prey.

Arrendegivaren are social animals, often found in family groups of 4 to 12. They are primarily crepuscular, though activity peaks at dawn and dusk. Diet consists of aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates; they will opportunistically forage on fish and crustaceans. They construct reed lodges along the water’s edge, which provide shelter and nursery space for dependent young.

Reproduction occurs seasonally, with a gestation period around two months and litters of 2–4 offspring. Young are altricial at birth and remain with the mother for several months. Predators in folklore include large river birds and shapeshifting beings; in some regions, Arrendegivaren protectors of wetlands are revered in ritual practice.
