Antigraffiti is a term used to describe methods and products designed to prevent, deter, or simplify the removal of graffiti on buildings, pavement, and other surfaces. It encompasses coatings, coating types, design choices, policy measures, and enforcement practices aimed at reducing vandalism and maintenance costs. A key goal is to preserve the aesthetics and usability of public and private spaces while enabling rapid graffiti cleanup.

Coatings are a central component. Sacrificial antigraffiti coatings form a removable layer that carries away graffiti when cleaned, usually requiring reapplication after cleaning. Non-sacrificial or permanent antigraffiti coatings are harder, allowing graffiti to be removed without removing the coating itself. Common materials include polyurethane, acrylic, polyurea, and silicone- or siloxane-based formulations. Application is typically on non-porous surfaces such as glass, metal, or painted concrete. Effectiveness and limitations: Antigraffiti coatings can reduce long-term maintenance costs but require ongoing inspection, reapplication, and specialized cleaners. Performance varies with graffiti type, substrate, weather, and application quality. Environmental and health concerns include VOC emissions and disposal, with some coatings presenting cleanup challenges if poorly maintained.
