Ansættelsesvilkår are the terms of employment that govern the relationship between an employer and an employee. They describe the rights and duties of both parties and may be set out in a written employment contract, in collective agreements, or in employer policies. They can also arise from statutory rules that apply regardless of contract, and they may be supplemented by company practices.

Common elements include: type and duration of the employment (permanent or fixed-term), start date, place of work, job title and description of duties, working hours and location, wages or salary, pay structure and benefits, overtime rules, vacation and holiday entitlement, sick leave and benefits, pension arrangements, training and career development, probationary period, and confidentiality or non-compete clauses. Termination provisions, including notice periods and grounds for dismissal, are a central part of ansættelsesvilkår as well. Many Danish terms are negotiated in collective agreements between employers and trade unions, and these agreements can set minimum standards for pay, hours, and conditions in specific sectors. Where collective agreements are not in place, statutory provisions—such as Ferieloven for holidays and Arbejdsmiljøloven for working conditions—apply.

Change of terms typically requires consent or appropriate notice; termination or material changes should be documented to avoid disputes. For employees and employers, clear ansættelsesvilkår provide predictability, protect rights, and help manage performance, safety, and welfare.
