Anställdes, in contrast, is strictly a past passive verb form.

Morphology and usage: anställa is a regular verb in its active forms (pres. anställer, past active anställde, etc.). The present passive is anställs, and the past passive is anställdes. The past passive is used when the subject receives the action of employing, often with a phrase indicating the agent, for example with av + agent: Han anställdes av företaget. The agentive phrase can be omitted if understood from context.
