An alglaadija, or initial loader, is a small piece of software that resides in a computer's non-volatile memory, such as ROM or flash memory. Its primary function is to initiate the computer's startup process when the power is turned on. This initial stage is critical for bridging the gap between hardware activation and the loading of the main operating system.

The alglaadija performs several essential tasks. First, it conducts a power-on self-test (POST) to verify that the fundamental hardware components are functioning correctly.
