Al-Darqawi refers to a prominent Sufi order, the Darqawiyya, which traces its lineage back to Muhammad al-Darqawi. He was a Moroccan Sufi shaykh who lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Darqawiyya order is known for its emphasis on spiritual poverty, detachment from worldly possessions, and intense devotion to God.

The teachings of al-Darqawi often focus on the concept of *fana* (annihilation of the self in God) and *baqa* (subsistence in God). His disciples were encouraged to cultivate a simple lifestyle, often living in remote areas and relying on divine providence. The order spread widely throughout Morocco and also into other parts of North Africa and the Middle East.

A key feature of the Darqawiyya is its active engagement with the spiritual path through practices such as chanting the names of God (dhikr), meditation, and the contemplation of divine unity. While some Sufi orders are known for their elaborate rituals, the Darqawiyya often emphasizes a more internalized and personal spiritual journey. Despite its historical significance, the order's influence and practices continue to be a subject of study and practice within contemporary Sufism.
