Ajtófront is a term used in Hungarian architecture and carpentry to denote the visible front face of a door—the primary design surface that defines the door’s appearance. It refers to the planar surface that is exposed when the door is closed, and it may include panels, veneers, inlays, and any decorative or functional hardware mounted on the face. The ajtófront is distinct from the door’s edges, rails and stiles, and from the door frame.

Etymology and usage. The word combines ajtó, meaning door, with a form of front or front-facing surface borrowed from Western design terminology. In Hungarian carpentry discourse, the ajtófront is discussed as the main aesthetic element of a door, especially in custom or heritage work, where it is coordinated with interior or exterior architecture and materials.

Construction and materials. Ajtófronts can be made from solid wood, plywood with veneer, or medium-density fiberboard with laminates.
