afsenderside

Afsenderside is a term used in Danish-language technical contexts to denote the sender side of a communication system. It describes the portion of a workflow, protocol stack, or network path that originates and dispatches a message or data unit, as opposed to the receiverside, which handles reception and processing.

In practice, afsenderside encompasses activities performed by the originating application or device. Typical responsibilities include data creation, formatting, encoding, digital signing, optional encryption, metadata insertion, and the actual transmission of the message toward the next hop or recipient. Depending on the architecture, these tasks may be executed by a client program, an edge device, or a software component within an application layer.

Security and privacy considerations often center on the afsenderside, particularly for end-to-end encryption and message authentication. When encryption or signing is performed on the afsenderside, it helps ensure content integrity and confidentiality before the data traverses intermediate networks or servers. The term is commonly used in contrast with the modtagerside (receiverside).

Applications include email clients that perform PGP or S/MIME on the sender side, mobile messaging apps that encrypt messages within the sender’s device, and APIs where the client is responsible for initial payload construction and signing. In many discussions, English-language literature uses sender-side or client-side terminology rather than the Danish neologism.
