Adatmesh is a term used to describe a distributed mesh networking framework designed to enable resilient, self-organizing data routing among devices in ad hoc or infrastructure-scarce environments. It emphasizes decentralization, scalability, and secure communication, allowing nodes to forward data across multiple hops without reliance on centralized servers or fixed infrastructure.

In adatmesh, each participating device, or node, maintains local knowledge of its immediate neighbors and uses decentralized routing algorithms to relay packets. Routes are established and maintained through periodic neighbor discovery, local broadcasts, and gossip-based information exchange, enabling the network to adapt to topology changes such as device mobility or power loss.

Security and trust are central concerns. Typical designs include mutual authentication, end-to-end encryption, and lightweight cryptographic protocols suitable for resource-constrained devices. Distributed key management and trust models aim to reduce single points of failure while preserving privacy and data integrity.

Interoperability and standards are an ongoing area of development. Adatmesh is generally conceived to be compatible with IPv6 addressing and open interface concepts, but there is no single universal standard; implementations vary in routing algorithms, security models, and performance characteristics.

Applications span disaster response, environmental and industrial sensor networks, smart agriculture, and temporary event communications. Common challenges include latency variability in large or highly dynamic networks, energy efficiency for battery-powered nodes, and securing the network against node compromise or spoofing.
