Acrilice, in Romanian usage, refers to acrylic paints, a family of water-based paints in which the pigment is dispersed in an acrylic polymer emulsion. The resulting film forms a flexible, durable layer when dried, able to adhere to a variety of substrates.

Acrylic paints are water-soluble while wet, which makes cleanup easy and handling convenient. Once dry, they become water-resistant. They dry rapidly, which facilitates layering and quick experimentation, but there are also slow-drying or open formulations that extend working time. Dilution with water or with commercial mediums adjusts viscosity, gloss, and texture.

Acrylics can be used on many surfaces, including canvas, paper, wood, metal, plaster, and varnished surfaces, often with a ground or primer to improve adhesion and longevity. They are versatile in technique, enabling transparent glazes, opaque blocks of color, impasto textures, and mixed-media effects. Because they can be reactivated with water when wet, some techniques require careful planning or the use of retarders to extend working time.

Pigments in acrilice range from transparent to opaque, with a wide color spectrum. The lightfastness and transparency depend on pigment chemistry, and some colors may be hazardous if mishandled. General safety practices include good ventilation and avoiding ingestion or prolonged skin contact with concentrates.

History and usage: acrilice became widely available in the mid-20th century and have since become a staple in fine art, illustration, and crafts. Today, they are produced in various forms, including student and professional lines, heavy-body and fluid grades, acrylic inks, and specialty pouring or open (slow-drying) variants.
