Absortiva is a Portuguese adjective used to describe something related to absorption or to the process of absorbing substances or energy into a bulk phase. In Brazilian Portuguese it appears mainly in technical and scientific contexts, where it denotes properties, mechanisms, or systems that take in matter or energy rather than just acting on a surface. The feminine form absortiva often appears in phrases describing materials, tissues, or processes.

In physics and engineering, absortiva characterizes materials or interfaces with notable absorptive capability, such as absorbing light, heat, or solvents. Expressions like coeficiente absortivo or capacidade absortiva are used to quantify how much energy or material can be taken up by a substance.
