ZrAlSiO4
ZrAlSiO4 is a ternary oxide compound with the chemical formula ZrAlSiO4. It represents a solid solution series between zirconium silicate (zircon, ZrSiO4) and aluminum silicate, or more specifically, mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2 or 2Al2O3·SiO2) and other aluminosilicate compositions. In this compound, aluminum ions (Al3+) substitute for some of the zirconium ions (Zr4+) or silicon ions (Si4+) within the crystal lattice of zircon, or vice-versa in aluminosilicate structures. The precise stoichiometry and structure depend on the synthesis method and the relative proportions of the constituent elements.
ZrAlSiO4 materials typically exhibit properties that are a combination of those found in zircon and aluminosilicates.
