Zoneedge

Zoneedge refers to a concept within computing and networking that describes the boundary or interface between distinct zones of security or network control. These zones are often defined by different trust levels, administrative policies, or functional purposes. The zoneedge is the point where traffic or data must pass to move from one zone to another, and therefore, it is a critical area for implementing security controls and monitoring.

The primary function of a zoneedge is to enforce policies and security measures. This typically involves firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, or other network security appliances that inspect and filter traffic. For example, a common zoneedge exists between a corporate internal network (a high-trust zone) and the public internet (a low-trust zone). Traffic attempting to enter or leave the internal network must pass through this zoneedge, where it is scrutinized for potential threats.

The concept of zoneedge is also relevant in cloud computing environments. Within a cloud deployment, different services or applications might reside in separate virtual private clouds (VPCs) or subnets, each representing a distinct zone. The connections between these zones, often managed by cloud-native firewalls or security groups, constitute zoneedges.
