Zió

Zió is a small rural municipality and village in the fictional realm of Veridia, in the Valorian Highlands, Estoria district. The population is 1,230 as of 2023.

The origin of the name Zió is uncertain; local tradition links it to an old regional term meaning "source" or "well."

Located in a gentle valley along the Lumen River, Zió features a temperate climate, fertile soils, and mixed forests. Agriculture is widespread, with dairy farming and grain cultivation forming the backbone of the local economy, supplemented by small-scale forestry and crafts.

The area has medieval origins; the village grew around a monastery and a market. In modern times it developed further through improvements in roads and schooling, contributing to gradual population stability and the expansion of communal services.

Zió is the administrative seat of Zió Commune, led by a mayor and a nine-member council elected every four years.

The local economy centers on dairy cattle, grain cultivation, and forestry; small crafts and local services also contribute. The village maintains a primary school, a health clinic, and a municipal library, with basic utilities available to residents.

Culturally, Zió hosts an annual festival known as the Feast of the Lumen in late summer. Notable sites include the Zió Church of the Assumption, the Old Watermill, and the Zió Arboretum, which attract visitors and provide community gathering spaces.

Zió is connected by regional roads and bus lines; the nearest railway station is in Braya, about 20 kilometers away.
