Zawiadczenie

Zaświadczenie is an official document that certifies facts or statuses, issued by an authority or institution. Such documents usually bear the holder’s name, the issuing authority, date, signature, and often a stamp; some forms also show a validity period. They serve as proof in administrative procedures, employment, education, or legal matters.

Zawiadomienie is a notice or notification intended to inform a person or an entity about a fact, event, or legal action. In legal and administrative contexts, it can refer to notices of proceedings, deadlines, or required actions. Delivery methods may include personal service, mail, or electronic communication, depending on jurisdiction. Typical contents include the subject of the notice, parties involved, relevant dates, and instructions or deadlines.

Spelling and usage: in contemporary Polish, zaświadczenie and zawiadomienie are the correct forms. Zawiadczenie is generally considered a misspelling. When encountered, interpret from context whether the intended meaning is a certificate/attestation or a notice. In any formal text, use the appropriate term to avoid ambiguity.
