Zapin

Zapin is a traditional Malay dance originating from the state of Johor in Malaysia. It is a lively and energetic dance characterized by its fast-paced footwork and graceful upper body movements. The dance is often performed in pairs, with male and female dancers interacting in a playful and romantic manner.

The music accompanying zapin is typically played on traditional Malay instruments such as the gambus, a type of lute, as well as violins, drums, and sometimes flutes. The rhythm is intricate and syncopated, driving the dancers' movements. Zapin's origins are believed to be influenced by Arabic and Persian forms of dance, brought to the Malay Archipelago by traders centuries ago. Over time, it evolved and integrated local Malay cultural elements.
