ZKM

ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe) is a cultural institution in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, devoted to art, technology, and especially media art and digital culture. Opened in 1990, it was established to explore the intersection of art, science, and society and to present technologically innovative works to a broad public. As a combined museum, research center, and production platform, ZKM hosts exhibitions, performances, conferences, and educational programs that engage artists, scholars, and the public.

The complex encompasses several components housed under one roof. The ZKM Center for Art and Media serves as the umbrella organization, while its major programmatic units include the Museum of Contemporary Art (Museum für Neue Kunst) and the Institute for Music and Acoustics (IMA). The building is a repurposed artillery hall in Karlsruhe’s cultural district, renowned for its adaptable spaces that accommodate large-scale media installations and live events.

ZKM maintains a significant collection of media art and digital culture artifacts, along with archives and documentation to support research and education.
