Yulara

Yulara is a purpose-built town in the Northern Territory, Australia, located in the Red Centre near Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. The community lies about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Uluru and serves as the main service hub for visitors to the park.

History and purpose

Yulara was developed as a planned gateway to Uluru and the surrounding national park to provide accommodation, tourism services, and infrastructure for travelers. The Ayers Rock Resort complex is the focal point of the town, offering a range of hotels, restaurants, and tour facilities tailored to visitors to the region.

Transportation

The town contains Yulara Airport (Connellan Airport), IATA code AYQ, which handles much of the region’s air traffic and provides access for tourists arriving by air. The Lasseter Highway connects Yulara with Alice Springs and other parts of the Northern Territory, linking the town to the broader road network.

Population and land

The permanent population of Yulara is relatively small, estimated at around a few thousand residents. The town sits on traditional Anangu country, and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is co-managed by Anangu people and government authorities.
