Yubatake
Yubatake (湯畑) is a landmark hot-water field in Kusatsu Onsen, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The term means “hot water field” and refers to the large outdoor complex that serves as the town's main source of hot spring water. Water from Kusatsu's springs emerges at high temperature and flows through a series of wooden troughs and channels arranged in a fan- or grid-like pattern. As water moves along the channels, it is cooled by exposure to air and by mixing with surrounding water, reducing its temperature before being piped to the town's baths, inns, and public facilities. The field also releases steam and mineral-rich air, contributing to the characteristic Kusatsu onsen atmosphere.
