YoRHa

YoRHa is a fictional organization of android soldiers central to the video game NieR: Automata and its related media. Created by the surviving humans to reclaim Earth from the invading machine lifeforms, YoRHa operates from an orbital base known as the Bunker and deploys frontline androids to the planet’s surface. The androids are supported by flight-capable combat Pods and maintained by a command structure that relays orders from the Bunker to the field.

Androids in the YoRHa program are identified by model numbers, such as YoRHa No.2 Type B (2B), YoRHa No.9 Type S (9S), and YoRha No.2 Type A (A2). They are designed to be emotionally restrained and mission-focused, with protocols intended to suppress attachments and ensure loyalty to the organization’s objectives. The program emphasizes efficiency and secrecy, often presenting a filtered narrative about humanity’s status and the war.

The most well-known YoRHa units are 2B, a combat model; 9S, a reconnaissance model; and A2, a rogue YoRHa unit who diverges from standard directives. Their interactions drive Much of NieR: Automata’s plot, exploring themes of memory, identity, and the nature of humanity within a cycle of conflict. The organization’s truth and the androids’ perceptions of humanity are central to the game’s philosophical inquiries and multiple endings.

YoRHa’s concept has been expanded in spin-off materials, guidebooks, and adaptations, cementing its role as a defining element of NieR’s world-building and its examination of war, consciousness, and what it means to be human.
