Yleiskonekivääreihin, also known as general-purpose machine guns (GPMGs), are a class of light machine guns designed for use as both infantry support weapons and squad automatic weapons. They are typically belt-fed and capable of sustained automatic fire, though they can also be fired in semi-automatic mode. The "general-purpose" designation signifies their adaptability; they can be mounted on bipods for squad support, tripods for stationary defense, or even vehicle mounts.

These weapons are characterized by their relatively light weight compared to heavier machine guns, allowing them to be carried and operated by individual soldiers or small teams. Their versatility makes them a cornerstone of modern infantry tactics, providing suppressive fire, engaging enemy positions, and supporting troop movements.
