Yksimasterijärjestelmä

Yksimasterijärjestelmä, often abbreviated as YMJ, refers to a singular master key system used in lock mechanisms. This type of system allows a single key, the master key, to operate multiple different locks, each of which can also be opened by its own unique key. This is in contrast to a traditional keyed-alike system where multiple locks operate with identical keys, or a simple keyed-to-differ system where each lock has a unique key and no master key exists.

The core principle behind a yksimasterijärjestelmä involves a specific arrangement of pins within the lock cylinders. Each lock cylinder has a set of pins that must be aligned to a precise height for the correct key to operate it. In a master key system, there are additional "master pins" inserted between the driver pins and key pins. When the master key is inserted, it lifts all pins to a specific shear line, allowing the cylinder to turn. When an individual key for a specific lock is used, it only lifts the key pins to the shear line for that particular lock, bypassing the master pins.

Yksimasterijärjestelmä solutions are commonly employed in environments where access control and operational efficiency are paramount. Examples include office buildings, apartment complexes, hotels, and educational institutions. In these settings, a master key can grant access to authorized personnel for all units or specific zones, simplifying management and emergency response.
