Yinalgoritmen

Yinalgoritmen is a term used in some Swedish-language texts to denote a family of linear-algebra algorithms that focus on solving systems of linear equations and related problems through iterative transformations. Rather than a single fixed procedure, yinalgoritmen serves as an umbrella for methods that share a linear-transformation core and an emphasis on progressive refinement of solution estimates.

The core idea is to apply a linear transformation, often denoted by Y, to current estimates or residuals and to update these estimates iteratively toward convergence. Variants may use Y as a preconditioner, as a sequence of intermediate transforms (such as LU- or QR-like steps), or as part of a scheme that targets residual minimization or spectral properties. Orthogonalization, stabilization techniques, and shift strategies may be incorporated to improve convergence and numerical robustness.

Historically, the label yinalgoritmen appears in some regional textbooks and lecture notes as an educational umbrella rather than a single algorithmic recipe. In mainstream international literature, the methods described under this name are typically identified by more specific names (for example, conjugate gradient, GMRES, LU decomposition, or preconditioning frameworks).
