A pelvic exam might be performed to identify any physical abnormalities or sources of pain. Treatment depends heavily on the underlying cause. For physical issues, it might involve lubricants, hormone therapy, antibiotics for infections, physical therapy for muscle tension, or surgical intervention in some cases. Psychological causes may be addressed through counseling, therapy, or sex therapy. Open communication with a partner is also often encouraged as part of the treatment process.
