Yakselian

Yakselian is the term used for the inhabitants, language, and culture of Yakselia, a fictional sovereign state in the northern highlands of the continent of Northoria. The Yakselian landscape is varied, featuring pine forests, deep river valleys, and plateaus that reach into alpine environments. The majority of residents identify as Yakselian, though a number of minority groups maintain distinct languages and traditions in border areas.

In the fictional history of Yakselia, early communities formed along the rivers between 2000 and 1500 BCE, coalescing into a regional monarchy in the Middle Ages. The modern state emerged in the early 20th century and adopted a parliamentary system following constitutional reforms in the 1990s. Yakselia is a unitary state with a bicameral legislature and an elected government.

The Yakselian language is generally considered an isolate with two major dialects, Northern and Southern. Most citizens are bilingual in Yakselian and a regional lingua franca used in commerce and education. The population is estimated at around 2 million.
