Xueshan

Xueshan, also known as Snow Mountain (雪山), is a prominent peak in Taiwan. It is the second-highest mountain on the island, with an elevation of 3,886 meters (12,739 feet) above sea level. The name Xueshan means Snow Mountain in Chinese.

Xueshan lies in central Taiwan as part of the Xueshan Range, a northern extension of the Central Mountain Range. The range runs roughly north–south through the island's high interior, and Xueshan is one of its most notable summits.

Ecology and climate on Xueshan reflect its high elevation. Lower slopes are forested, giving way to subalpine and alpine environments higher up. In winter, cold air and sufficient precipitation can produce snow on the summit, making it a distinctive feature of Taiwan’s highlands. Weather at these elevations can be severe and change rapidly.

Access and climbing: Xueshan is a popular destination for serious hikers and climbers. Access is via designated mountain trails; the ascent is demanding and weather can change rapidly. Permits may be required from park authorities, and climbers are generally advised to be experienced and properly equipped. Snow and ice on upper sections can require crampons and other technical gear.
