Xanthomixis

Xanthomixis is a genus of birds in the family Zosteropidae, commonly known as white-eyes. The genus was formerly considered to be monotypic, containing only Xanthomixis flaviventer. However, recent phylogenetic studies have led to the reclassification of several species previously placed in Zosterops into Xanthomixis. As a result, the genus now encompasses several distinct species found in the Indo-Malayan region.

The species within Xanthomixis are generally small, passerine birds characterized by their greenish upperparts, yellowish underparts, and a distinctive white eye-ring that gives the family its common name. Their plumage can vary slightly between species, and some exhibit differences in size and bill morphology. They are typically found in forests, woodlands, and cultivated areas, where they forage for insects, nectar, and fruit. Their social behavior often involves small flocks, especially outside the breeding season.

The current recognized species in the genus Xanthomixis include the Yellow-bellied White-eye (Xanthomixis flaviventer), the Palawan White-eye (Xanthomixis palawanensis), the Celestial White-eye (Xanthomixis caeruleus), and the Everett's White-eye (Xanthomixis everetti). The exact taxonomic status and relationships within the genus are still subjects of ongoing research, and further genetic and morphological studies may refine the classification in the future.
