XMLformaadis

XMLformaadis is a hypothetical XML-based data format and form description language designed to describe structured data, form layouts, and validation rules for interoperable enterprise applications. It provides a canonical XML representation of form templates that can be consumed by client applications to render forms, collect input, and bind data to existing data models.

The specification emphasizes modularity, extensibility, and self-describing schemas. It relies on XML Schema (or alternative schema languages) to declare element types, attributes, and constraints, and it supports localization through language-tagged labels and annotations. Form templates separate layout information from data semantics, enabling rendering in diverse UIs while maintaining data integrity through defined bindings.

XMLformaadis was proposed by a consortium of standards researchers in the late 2010s as a means to standardize form-based data interchange across systems. Although discussed in academic and pilot contexts, it has not achieved widespread formal adoption. Some government and corporate pilots explored XMLformaadis as an alternative to proprietary form formats.

A typical document describes a collection of forms with metadata, a set of fields with data types, constraints, and default values, and optional rendering hints. Data binding maps form fields to XML or other data models, and validation rules can be evaluated client-side or server-side. The format is intended to be transport-agnostic, usable over standard XML-based messaging such as SOAP or RESTful services.
