Woollahra

Woollahra is a harbourside suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located 5 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra. The Municipality of Woollahra also encompasses the suburbs of Bellevue Hill, Bondi, Bondi Junction, Bowral, Edgecliff, Haymarket, Point Piper, Rose Bay, Rushcutters Bay, and Vaucluse.

The suburb is known for its leafy streets, Victorian and Federation architecture, and its proximity to the city and the Sydney Harbour. Woollahra Village, located along Queen Street, is a popular destination for boutique shopping, art galleries, and cafes. The area is also home to several parks and gardens, including Woollahra Park and the historic Redleaf Pool.

Historically, the area was inhabited by the Indigenous Australian Gadigal people. European settlement began in the early 19th century, with the area being named Woollahra by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1830, derived from an Indigenous word meaning "red soil" or "red earth". The suburb developed significantly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracting wealthy residents who built large homes in the area.

Woollahra is a primarily residential suburb with a mix of freestanding houses and some apartment buildings. It is well-served by public transport, with bus routes connecting it to the city and surrounding suburbs. The area maintains a village atmosphere despite its proximity to the bustling city.
