Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England. It sits at the eastern edge of the Black Country and is part of the wider West Midlands conurbation. The city is governed by Wolverhampton Council and serves as the administrative center for the surrounding area.

The area has medieval origins, with the name traditionally linked to Wulfrun, a noblewoman who endowed a church there in the 10th century. Wolverhampton grew around St. Peter's Collegiate Church and for centuries developed as a market town. It became a major centre of metalworking, nail making, coal mining, and glass production during the Industrial Revolution.

Today the economy is diverse, with public services, manufacturing, engineering, and logistics playing significant roles. Cultural and sporting institutions include the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, and Molineux Stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. The city is also home to the University of Wolverhampton, which has multiple campuses in the region.

Wolverhampton has a railway station on the main line between London and the North, with services to Birmingham, London, and other destinations, and is connected by local bus networks. The West Midlands Metro light rail provides tram services to Birmingham and surrounding towns.
