Molineux

Molineux, commonly known as Molineux Stadium, is a football stadium in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. It is the home ground of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club (Wolves) and has been central to the club’s identity since the late 19th century. The stadium sits on Waterloo Road and was opened in 1889. The name derives from the Molineux family, local landowners who owned the estate on which the ground was built.

Throughout its long history, Molineux has undergone several rounds of redevelopment to accommodate larger crowds and modern facilities. It was significantly rebuilt in the early 20th century and was transformed into an all-seater venue in 1990 in response to safety regulations following the Hillsborough disaster. In the decades since, the stadium has been further modernized with upgraded seating, concourses, and amenities, bringing its current capacity to around 32,000.

The venue is closely associated with Wolves’ achievements, including top-flight titles in the 1950s, and has hosted numerous domestic cup ties and other matches featuring the club. It also serves as a venue for occasional England national team matches and other events connected to the club and the city. Molineux remains a central feature of Wolverhampton’s sporting landscape and a symbol of the club’s history.
