This document serves as verification that a person resides at a specific address and is often required for various administrative, legal, or financial procedures.

The Wohnsitzbestätigung is typically issued by the local Bürgeramt (citizen’s office) or Bürgerbüro (citizen’s service office) in Germany. The process usually involves presenting a valid identification document, such as a passport or personal ID card, and proof of residence, like a rental agreement or utility bill. In some cases, the landlord or property owner may also need to provide confirmation of the tenant’s occupancy.

This certificate is frequently requested for tasks such as opening a bank account, enrolling in school, applying for government benefits, or registering for public services. Employers, landlords, or other institutions may also require it to verify an individual’s address for compliance or documentation purposes.

The validity of a Wohnsitzbestätigung varies depending on the issuing authority, but it is generally considered valid for a short period, often a few weeks to a month. Some institutions may accept a self-certified declaration (Selbstauskunft) as an alternative, though this is less common for official or legally binding purposes.
