Wilders

Wilders is a Dutch surname and, less commonly, a place name. It is borne by several individuals in the Netherlands and among Dutch diaspora, with Geert Wilders being the most widely known bearer.

Geert Wilders (born 1963 in Venlo) is a Dutch politician who leads the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV). The PVV, founded in 2006, is a right-leaning party known for its anti-immigration platform, skepticism toward Islam, and emphasis on Dutch sovereignty. Wilders has been a central figure in Dutch politics, frequently shaping public debate on immigration, integration, and religious tolerance, and his activities have had international resonance in European political discourse.

In 2008 he released the short film Fitna, which juxtaposed passages from the Quran with examples of violence and extremist acts; the film drew widespread controversy and condemnation as well as support from his allies.

Beyond Geert Wilders, the name is less widely recognized and remains primarily a surname in the Netherlands and among Dutch-speaking communities.
