WiehleReston

Wiehle-Reston East is a transit-oriented district in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, located in the northern part of Reston near the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) and Sunset Hills Road. The district centers on the Wiehle–Reston East Metro station, which serves Washington Metro’s Silver Line trains and provides rail access to downtown Washington, D.C., Tysons, and the western suburbs.

The Wiehle-Reston East station opened in July 2014 as the eastern terminus of WMATA’s Silver Line Phase I, connecting Largo Town Center with Wiehle-Reston East. In November 2022, the Silver Line was extended westward to Dulles Airport and beyond, adding intermediate stops such as Reston Town Center and Innovation Center. The extension transformed the area from a terminus to a through-station on a longer regional line and spurred additional transit-oriented development and land-use changes around the station.

Characterized by mixed-use development, the Wiehle-Reston East area includes residential neighborhoods, office campuses, retail spaces, and municipal services. The district supports bicycle and pedestrian access and is integrated with bus services serving Reston and surrounding communities. It forms part of Fairfax County’s broader Reston planning and development efforts aimed at leveraging transit access to support sustainable growth.
