Whelandi

Whelandi is a town and municipality located in a temperate agricultural region along the Wheal River. The municipality covers roughly 32 square kilometers and includes the town center and several surrounding villages. As of the most recent census, Whelandi has about 14,500 residents. The economy is driven by dairy farming, crop production, and related agro-processing, with a growing service sector that includes education, health care, and small manufacturing.

The town was founded in the early 18th century by settlers from neighboring areas and developed around a water-powered mill. It operated under a local council government and, since the late 20th century, uses a council–manager model. The city council, elected every four years, selects a mayor who serves as a largely ceremonial head, while a professional town manager handles day-to-day administration.

Geographically, Whelandi lies on flat to gently rolling terrain with fertile soils. The climate is temperate, with four distinct seasons and modest rainfall. Cultural life centers on the historic town square, the farmers market, and annual festivals celebrating harvest and regional crafts. Notable landmarks include the Old Windmill, a restored mill museum, and the city's public library.

Education offerings include several primary schools, one secondary school, and a regional college campus. Transportation comprises a network of local roads, a regional rail stop, and a municipal bus service. The town maintains a green initiative focused on sustainable farming and energy efficiency.
