Welltesting

Welltesting, also known as reservoir testing or production testing, is a crucial process in the oil and gas industry used to evaluate the characteristics of a subsurface reservoir. It involves producing a well at controlled rates for a specific period while systematically monitoring and recording various parameters. The primary goal of welltesting is to understand the reservoir's properties, such as permeability, skin damage, reservoir pressure, and connectivity between wells.

The data collected during welltesting is analyzed using specialized software and techniques. This analysis helps determine the reservoir's flow potential, estimate reserves, and optimize production strategies. Different types of welltests exist, including drawdown tests, buildup tests, and interference tests, each designed to reveal specific reservoir information. Drawdown tests involve reducing the well's production rate from a high initial rate, while buildup tests monitor pressure changes after production is shut in. Interference tests involve producing one well and observing the pressure response in nearby wells.
