WLTPpykälät

WLTPpykälät refers to the Finnish translation of the World Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). This is a global standard for determining the level of emissions and fuel consumption of traditional, hybrid, and fully electric passenger cars. The procedure was developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and is intended to provide more realistic and comparable results than previous testing methods.

The WLTP test cycle is designed to simulate real-world driving conditions more accurately than the older NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) standard. It includes different driving speeds, acceleration rates, and braking phases, as well as a wider range of ambient temperatures. The procedure also accounts for different vehicle equipment and powertrains, aiming to reflect a more diverse set of driving scenarios.

In Finland, as in other EU member states, WLTPpykälät are used for type approval and for calculating vehicle taxes, such as the annual vehicle tax (ajoneuvovero). The figures for CO2 emissions and fuel consumption determined by the WLTP are now used as the basis for these calculations, which can affect the cost of owning and operating a vehicle. Consumers are advised to consult WLTP figures when comparing different car models, as they offer a more standardized and representative indication of a vehicle's environmental performance and running costs.
