WCAGriktlinjen

WCAGriktlinjen refers to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, often abbreviated as WCAG. These are a set of internationally recognized guidelines for making web content and web applications accessible to people with disabilities. The guidelines are developed and published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) through its Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The primary goal of WCAG is to provide a common standard to help developers, designers, and content creators build accessible websites and digital products.

The guidelines are structured around four core principles: perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness. Each principle is further broken down into specific success criteria that can be tested. These criteria are assigned conformance levels, ranging from A (least accessible) to AAA (most accessible), allowing organizations to choose a target level of accessibility. WCAGriktlinjen covers a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Adhering to WCAGriktlinjen not only benefits users with disabilities but also improves the overall user experience for everyone, including those using mobile devices, users with slow internet connections, and older users. Many countries and regions have adopted WCAG as a legal standard for web accessibility, making compliance a legal requirement for public sector websites and increasingly for private sector organizations.
